Cam Young - SOLVES THE PROBLEM OF BORDERS IN TABLES
What a dude. Cam - good stuff. In order to remove the annoying borders around table sin your page structure, so that images and table cells abut one another seamlessly, you need to actually set the page border size to "0", and ALSO set the cell padding and cell spacing ="0" .
Genius!
So many things to keep track of...so fiddly.
Soon - on to CSS layouts!
Rock on - B

Adding a SUBJECT LINE to a MAILTO tag
From hotwired's WebMonkey:

how to solve issues diplomatically
after the recent obvious hostilities between group A and B over the Dreamweaver Project issue, i put forward the suggestion that we settle the problem once and for all by having a rumble - Fight Club style - where each one of us chooses someone in the other class, matching height, weight (and sex if possible) and then fight it out in a dark concrete cellar, somewhere off an inner city laneway...

Assignment 1: Basic website
AV Online : AV Tech
Assignment 1: Basic website
Worth: 40% of total semester mark
Due: by the end of class on Thursday April 1st
Description
This assignment requires you to construct a basic website, comprising at least three pages. It can be on any topic you like but it needs to be something you are VERY interested in, passionate about - etc. YOU MIGHT CONSIDER THIS TO BE THE FOUNDATION FOR THE LATER, FINAL ASSIGNMENT. You might work on a client site - should you be working for someone on something at this time...or for your own company/band/biz...whatever. But get jiggy!
Framesets are not required for this assignment but if you feel up to it - go for it.
Requirements
The website should include:
- examples of different fonts, heading grades and colours
- several graphics, including a background image on one of the pages
- a table
- a link to your email address - with a precoded subject line.
- your name and student number on the main page (which should be named index.htm) - this can be a simple title page which links to the actual site.
One of the pages must include a link to a website that you find attractive and/or useful (not a search engine or an email site). Talk about this website. What do you like about it? How did you find it? Analyse the website’s content, navigation system, and graphic design. What, if anything, would you like to emulate in your own website? Aim for 250-300 words minimum, though you can go into more detail if you want to.
Submitting your assignment
Compress your website into a ZIP file (called
Remember to check with Branden that it’s been received!
OR - post it to the web and send me the URL.
Assessment criteria

- Ease of navigation
- Demonstrated familiarity with Dreamweaver functions
- Appropriateness of design
- Appropriate use of fonts and colour for viewing on screen
- Control and use of text elements
- Accessibility (eg labelling of graphics, titling the page, ALT tag elements)
Enjoy!
Big damn cat - a horked image for all
Here is some big cat, damn! And an example of an absolute link - which you can use to embed images into the page. NOW - DO NOT EMBED INAPPROPRIATE IMAGES IN OUR BLOG - that's why you have your own. (Mustafa, Julian...and the rest of you.)
The code you are after for this image, BTW - is img src="http://www.ebaumsworld.com/bigcat.jpg" - and don't forget to enclose this in brackets. '<>'

wanna help make a film?
hi kids
i got this from the acmi newsletter - thought someone out there might be interested:
Fancy volunteering as an extra on Jimoin's new film?
Chloe Boulton, an ACMI volunteer, is working on the new Australian feature film, The Extra. She is working on additional extras casting, and she has asked me to pass on the following information:
The Extra, written by and starring Jimeoin is a romantic comedy about an average guy who aspires to be a movie star and is willing to give anything a go to get there. It is being entirely filmed in Melbourne and also features Shaun Micallef, Rhys Muldoon and Bob Franklin.
We have several days where we require large audiences of volunteer extras to participate in the filming.
This is NOT paid work, but volunteers will receive food, drinks, give-aways, entertainment and a fascinating behind the scenes look at the making of a movie.
If you are interested and available to participate, please register on-line at www.jimeoin.com, or contact Chloe at Extra Extra Film Productions P/L on 9646 4415 (ph) or e-mail at theextra@iinet.net.au
Hundreds of volunteers are needed for this project, so please feel free to forward this on to anyone else who might be interested.

Broken Blog?
OK - BEWARE! It IS possible to break the blog - in fact, I just combed through the code for the template this morning that I used to "restore" the blog after someone in yesterday's PM class replaced the template with the default Blog template. Doh! So if you noticed some irregularities - like two banners at the top and posts that wouldn't move - they're fixed. But PLEASE EXPERIMENT with your Blogs - get it right - THEN you can play with the group template.
;-)
So the drill is: Customise YOUR blog. Don't break OUR blog. Have FUN with our blog. Be kind to animals.

I mean, here. Although I doubt that it is best shared in genteel company. (Thank you AMY for this contribution.)

Where is everyone?
Hello? Get thee hither - let us blog - blog for one and blog for all!
Please - while you are out creatively surfing for cool sites to share with us all - both in class and for the blog - have a look at blogs as well and bring in the good ones! I enjoyed this one today.
Rock on! B
Reading and then some!
DO READ chapters 6-9 as well for this week - this a reminder. And Do READ the chapters 1-5 - from last week. ;-)
And I just got an email from Macromedia about this - CSS seems to be picking up speed as a layout - and overall site structure - standard. Have a look at that link and see what Wired did. And get to know Wired - it's a great source of online dev info.

Blogging in the New World
hey kids! new blog for a new year - note that as you sign up I will give you admin access - this will let you have a greater play field - but please don't break the blog. ;-) it will let you add to the links at the right - but if you want to change the whole template - well - do it right - don't break it. Did I say that again?
I'm sure you'll have great wacky creative fun.
Now - DO CHECK THE BLOG regularly - i'll use it for announcements as opposed to email - and I'll also post important info re assignments, field trips, cash prizes and free beer. So stick to it.
Remember that you can use HTML in your posts - so go crazy - and while we're here, go check out Stencil Revolution - seeing as it played so visible a role in our last class. Maybe we should go stencilling? I mean what would the cops say if a WHOLE GROUP of us were out there stencilling?
Get jiggy - B
