Assignment 1: Basic website

AV Online : AV Tech

Assignment 1: Basic website

Worth: 40% of total semester mark
Due: by the end of class on Thursday April 1st

Description
This assignment requires you to construct a basic website, comprising at least three pages. It can be on any topic you like but it needs to be something you are VERY interested in, passionate about - etc. YOU MIGHT CONSIDER THIS TO BE THE FOUNDATION FOR THE LATER, FINAL ASSIGNMENT. You might work on a client site - should you be working for someone on something at this time...or for your own company/band/biz...whatever. But get jiggy!

Framesets are not required for this assignment but if you feel up to it - go for it.

Requirements
The website should include:
- examples of different fonts, heading grades and colours
- several graphics, including a background image on one of the pages
- a table
- a link to your email address - with a precoded subject line.
- your name and student number on the main page (which should be named index.htm) - this can be a simple title page which links to the actual site.

One of the pages must include a link to a website that you find attractive and/or useful (not a search engine or an email site). Talk about this website. What do you like about it? How did you find it? Analyse the website’s content, navigation system, and graphic design. What, if anything, would you like to emulate in your own website? Aim for 250-300 words minimum, though you can go into more detail if you want to.

Submitting your assignment
Compress your website into a ZIP file (called -assignment1) and email it to branden.barber@rmit.edu.au
Remember to check with Branden that it’s been received!

OR - post it to the web and send me the URL.

Assessment criteria
- Written expression and depth of analysis – describe, explain and defend/celebrate your chosen site - think design, usability, branding, content
- Ease of navigation
- Demonstrated familiarity with Dreamweaver functions
- Appropriateness of design
- Appropriate use of fonts and colour for viewing on screen
- Control and use of text elements
- Accessibility (eg labelling of graphics, titling the page, ALT tag elements)

Enjoy!
